How interest is added to a fixed deposit

A fixed deposit, or FDR, is a lump sum left with the bank for a fixed term. Many banks add the interest to the deposit every three months, so the next three months earn interest on that interest too. Some add it monthly, and some schemes pay all the interest once at maturity. Choose your bank's method above.

Tax and excise duty

Banks deduct tax at source from the interest, usually 10% if the bank holds your TIN and 15% if it does not. A yearly excise duty set by the government on the balance is also taken, and is not included here.

At the end of the term

Many fixed deposits renew automatically for the same term at the rate then on offer. Breaking one before it matures usually earns less interest.

An estimate, not an offer. Banks round, charge fees and time their payments in their own ways, so the figure on your contract can differ a little. Ask the bank for its own schedule before you sign.
