What a DPS is
A DPS, or deposit pension scheme, is a monthly savings plan: the same amount goes in every month, and at the end of the term you receive the deposits and the interest together. This calculator assumes each deposit is made at the start of the month and interest is added monthly. A bank that credits interest differently will give a slightly different figure.
Tax and excise duty
Banks deduct tax at source from deposit interest, usually 10% if the bank holds your TIN and 15% if it does not. Change the figure above if yours differs. Banks also take a yearly excise duty set by the government on the account balance, which is not included here.
Closing a DPS early
Close a DPS before it matures and most banks pay a lower rate, sometimes only the savings account rate, and a missed instalment can carry a penalty. Check the bank's terms before you open one.
